Whiting & Davis began making metal mesh, by hand, in the late 1800?s and developed the first machine-made mesh in our Massachusetts factory in 1912. Mesh gained popu larity for use in fashion accessories in the early part of the 20th century, and to this day we continue to be the major supplier of wholesale mesh material for designers all over the world. People are endlessly fascinated by the look and feel of this incredible material. Yet only the closest examination reveals that mesh is not a cloth fabric. Rather, it is an intricate weave of interlocking metal links formed from rings of solid brass, aluminum or stainless steel, plated or enameled, and polished to a brilliant finish. This luxurious material ripples through the fingers like liquid gold.... Feel the difference. #5SS Mesh, Actual Size Ring Mesh Four types of ring mesh (chain mail) are available: No. 9 mesh, made with .031" stainless steel wire; and No. 5 mesh, available with either .021" stainless steel or raw brass wire. Both have individually welded rings for strength, yet have the ability to collapse in two directions, allowing optimum flexibility. The largest ring mesh, No. 13, made from lightweight .039" aluminum wire, maintains the appearance of strength, without the weight. Brass Flat Mesh #70 Flat brass mesh is manufactured with a smooth ?spider? connecting to four individual rings. With a light reflective surface that can be either plated or enameled, flat mesh creates a shim - mering metal fabric that looks delicate but is unbelievably flexible and fluid. Aluminum Mesh #91 This lightweight aluminum mesh is manu factured with a slightly curved ?spider? that connects four individual flat aluminum rings. Developed for large applications such as drapery and costuming fabric, this mesh can also be pieced together in strips to create chunky, contemporary patterns. Aluminum Mesh, in order shown above: Natural Copper Bronze White Gold Also available: Black and Custom Colors Aluminum Mesh, Actual Size Each type of Whiting & Davis mesh can be used in a variety of applications to create a look and feel that ranges from luxurious opulence to industrial or contem porary edginess. Standard brass and aluminum meshes are avail able in metallic colorways ranging from silver to bronze, but can be specially enameled to match any Pantone color. Brass flat mesh can be further customized by adding patterns and logos with the use of sublimation technology.
